As International Consultant to UNESCAP (15 May-December, 95) conducted detailed study by launching fact finding missions to 9 countries namely China, India, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to establish status of implementation of ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems on national and enterprise level in ESCAP region. This study included: |

Adoption of ISO 9000 Series in the national system,
ii) Status of implementation of ISO 9000 by industries,
iii) Status of national accreditation system for certification bodies
and testing laboratories. |

DEVELOPMENT OF CONSULTATIVE MECHANISM |

As Resource Person organised
Consultative Expert Group meeting (8-14 Feb, 96) on "Regional Cooperation on the Adoption of
ISO 9000 Series" where finding of the fact finding missions were presented and a consultative
mechanism was envisaged to pursue the matter further. Nine countries of the region participated. |

workshops envisaged by the consultative expert

-Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka,
Thailand and Viet Nam participated.

(May-Dec, 1998) assisted in the development of conceptual framework for "Regional Cooperative
Policy Mechanism to Promote the Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies and ISO 14000".
The study was conducted by launching missions to India, Malaysia, Republic of Korea and Thailand
where wide spread consultations were done involving related organizations in these
countries. |

for the meeting of Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Development of ESCAP held in
Bangkok and Resource Person ( 26-28 October 1998) For conducting workshop of participating
countries for development of "Regional Cooperative Policy Mechanism to promote the transfer
of Environmentally sound Technologies". The countries participated were Bangladesh,
China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of Korea
and Thailand. |

Accreditation System for ISO 9000 & ISO 14000 certification bodies and setting up of
an ISO 9000 Certification Body in Pakistan. Also establishing criteria for launching
National Quality Awards. |
