WORK EXPERIENCE
Mr.
Sharma's
service career spanned for 38 years in different capacities:

6 years were spent in Agriculture as well as in
Community Dev. Deptt. of Govt. of U.P. where he was
supervising training, extension and agricultural
development activities at regional level. |
| 2) |
Joined Bureau
of Indian Standards in Feb 1970 and worked in different facets of functions of BIS: |

20 Years in
standardization in Food & Agriculture
area and formulated over 400 standards in
different food sectors. In this capacity he was
closely associated with Codex Alimentarius
Commission and ISO TC/34 Agricultural and Food
products committee of ISO. |
| ii) |
As Director Incharge of Food Department he was
overall charge of Food & Agri. Deptt.- a
multi- disciplinary, multi technology, multi-
linkages with statues in the Indian context and
highly interactive with consumer and media, Indian
Standards on Food Sector were relooked and
wherever needed were revised/ updated in view of
added thrust on microbiological and hygiene
aspects under SPS Agreement of WTO. Instrumental
for preparation of Indian Standard on Hazard
Analysis & Critical Control Point(HACCP) on
priority basis
and also the modus- operandi of its certification
by the BIS. |

As Secretary of Committee on
Spices and
Condiments
(ISO/TC/34/SC7)
most of the standards were revised keeping
in view changing global scenario and number of new
standards were prepared. |
| iv) |
As a representative of BIS on various National
Committee set up by the Govt. departments like
Health, Food processing and industries
associations such as FICCI, CII, ASOCHEM stressed
the need for streamlining divergent food laws and
presented case for their unification. This has
practically been achieved
through the recommendation of
the National
Sectoral Committee on Food Standards set up
by the Cabinet Sectt. under the chairmanship of
Secretary Ministry of Food Processing of which I
was the Secretary. |

Mr. Sharma has
been incharge of BIS Branch Office and also
regional office over seeing functions of
product certification. |

5. FOREIGN ASSIGNMENT/ INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
Worked as short term Consultant to ESCAP for preparing report on
status of standardization of agricultural machinery, organizing
meeting and conducting training programme for 9 selected countries
of the Region.
Attended
Meetings of Committees of ISO as member of Indian Delegation thrice
held in Germany and France.
